Beaches and Coastal Walks In Dumfries and Galloway

South West Scotland has over 200 miles of coastline with many safe sandy beaches and superb coastal walks to enjoy. Barstobrick is just 10 minutes’ drive away from a number of outstanding beaches. Near Kikcudbright there is Doon beach and from Gatehouse you reach Sandgreen, Carrick and Mossyard beaches. Brighouse Bay is also a beautiful beach nearby, complete with rock pools.

Slightly further away is Sandyhills, near Dalbeattie. Living up to its name, at low tide you look out on a vast expanse of sand. Great for family beach games such as rounders and sandcastle building competitions. Powillimount and Southerness beaches, near Kirkbean offer spectacular views across the Solway Firth to the Lake District. Rockcliffe is also great for exploring rock pools and at Scotland’s most southerly point, Mull of Galloway you have a lighthouse to explore and an RSPB nature reserve. Perched on the edge of a 260ft high cliff, you can climb the 115 steps of the lighthouse for some amazing views across Scotland to Cumbria, the Isle of Man and Ireland.
